Chestnut Run Energy is a proposed 1,300-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) electric-generating facility. The project will utilize low-carbon, American natural gas and recovered steam in a combined-cycle configuration to deliver flexible, cleaner energy to the region’s power system, making it one of the most efficient power-generation facilities in the U.S.
The footprint of the facility requires approximately 30 acres of land in Carroll County, Ohio. Chestnut Run will tie into a nearby natural gas access point, and upon its final interconnection, the project will dispatch reliable power to the PJM electric grid. The Project also consists of a 345 kilovolt (kV) generation tie line that will connect the natural gas electric generation facility to an existing 345kV transmission line approximately 2.2 miles to the north in Augusta Township. This will include a switching station that will be constructed on approximately 6 acres of private land at the point of interconnection with the 345kV transmission line.
Chestnut Run will be an over $2 billion investment in Carroll County, offering significant community benefits including jobs, tax revenue, local infrastructure support, and more.
The Project is in development by Advanced Power, a leading developer of modern, low-carbon and renewable power-generating facilities with U.S. offices in Boston and Houston. Advanced Power has a proven track record of developing state-of-the-art electric generation projects in the U.S. and worldwide.
The electrical interconnection and permitting processes for Chestnut Run are underway. Construction activities may begin as early as late 2026 with commercial operations expected in 2030. The facility will deliver smart American energy to Carroll County.
